Tip! Of course, if you don’t fancy trusting to reeds, then a trip to Taquile and Amantani - two of the ‘real’ islands further out in the lake is perhaps a better idea! Both islands are absolutely beautiful and have a rich heritage of both Inca and pre-Inca ruins, and both have a famous tradition of handwoven textiles. For the more adventurous, it is also possible to stay overnight on either of these islands with a local family and sample some real Andean hospitality as part of your holiday in Peru.

Peru-a country with many rules mostly unenforced and a lot of rights, again mostly overlooked and unenforced when sought after. The youth of Peru are confused, if not down right torn between these dilemmas, adult behaviour (social comparison), and on what they should do. I’ve been asked the question by students from Radio Stations in Huancayo, to University Students at Saint Martin, in Lima. I think they want to do what is right, they need leadership, and they are influenced by adult actions, expectations, but what is right and wrong? A simple question, with many variables for them, I do believe. Let me give you an example:

Tip! In many of the parks young females rent babies to carry around, and/or kids, holding their hands, and they walk the streets begging for money from the tourists. There are many now, tourists and beggars, much more than there were several years ago when I first came to Peru.
We need to secure a Free Trade Agreement with Peru to keep them out of the awaiting fate of Venezuela and Bolivia as those economies crumble due to their communist leanings and anti-capitalist points of view.

Tip! All in all, Lima is too easily dismissed when considering where to spend time during your Peru holidays. It has something for everyone and there are some great sights in the surrounding areas as well.
